[ ... Oh gods, if this feeling of Tanjiro's is also having a crush, Sasuke is going to... he doesn't even know. ]

Well, feel free to start talking. Maybe I help you understand.

[ Sasuke moves to sit next to Tanjiro in his one-legged stance of his. ]

So, Sparrow Pupil doesn't seem like family to you, but he's still important that you want him by your side even after what he said.

[ He nods, well if Sasuke tells him to talk about it, then he won't waste any more time. He furrows his brows as he tries to search for his feelings. ]

Uh-huh, and in our argument, it hurt me when he doesn't see himself as the person I was looking for-- when I was trying to gather all the important people to the house.

[ He places a hand over his chest. ]

It hurts right here like I was stabbed by a thousand pins at once.

[ Tanjiro is putting his hand over his chest. He felt pain from Zenitsu's rejection.... Sasuke's dealing with two fools who are pinning over the other but not realizing it. Gods, help him... ]

Did you tell him that? That he's important to you?

[ He sighs. Even if Tanjiro did, that doesn't mean that Zenitsu listened. The kid has it out for himself when it comes to beating his self-worth down. ]

Did it hurt when thought of himself as unimportant, or was it more that he didn't believe you?

[ Later Sasuke may realize that he was collected by Tanjiro as well. Why? He's not important at all! ]

...

[ What's Sasuke's getting at? He unconsciously grips his chest remembering the day he's been so ruthless to Zenitsu instead of talking it through. ]

It was both, but I was angrier that he didn't see himself as what he really is.

Not every life is worth the same, but Sparrow Pupil believes he's worthless when he's not. I haven't even known him that long, and I can see that clearly. He's a human believing he's worth as much as a monkey.

[ He turns to look at Tanjiro. His gaze is strangely distant. ]

He didn't understand your meaning, so he took it the wrong way. He compares himself to the people he knows are important to you, and then, he fails to see a place for himself among them.

I don't understand... there's always a place for him, he's just as important as my family. But that's the thing, he's important but what I feel for him isn't like them. And I hated the fact he thought I couldn't care for him because of that.

[ He closes his eyes, it isn't to say he doesn't care about his friends either-- he does, but Zenitsu being put in that category doesn't sound right either. He isn't family and he isn't a friend either. He's Zenitsu. Tanjiro hates seeing him in pain, he hates that he sees so little of himself; how Zenitsu seems to be blind from his own courageous heart and neverending kindness.

Tanjiro could picture in his head how gross his laugh is, how sweet his scent could be in rare moments of peace, how particular he can get about certain foods. He still remembers how he protected his dear sister despite his own fears, how he's still part of the Demon Slayer Corps despite his own protests.

Then he thinks about a world without the strange but welcoming smell of salt, copper and sweets. Tanjiro opens his eyes again, his head remains looking down as he comes to a conclusion. ]

I think... I want to spend every moment with him for as long as we're both alive.

[ He finally lets go of his heart and stares at his empty palm. ]

And, if the gods in our home country allow it, I hope I get to be with him again in the next life.

[ It's love. He's in love with Zenitsu, that's the answer, isn't it? ]

If you ask me, it sounds like you're in love with him.

[ Sasuke says as if he's reading Tanjiro's mind, but he doesn't need to. It's written all over his features, his actions, his words. Well, Sasuke's not going to be the one to tell him that the feeling is mutual. That's their job to figure out. ~~Please, gods, help them figure it out, so it's out of his own hands.~~ ]

So, the next thing you need to think of is what you do with the knowledge you now have about yourself and him.

[ He scratches his nose in thought before adding. ]

Or perhaps you should smooth over things between the two of you first.

I'm going to do both.

[ He doesn't have to think twice about it either, he made up his mind, and now it's set in stone. His hands form into fists in his determination. ]

I'm going to apologize to him but also I'm going to tell him how I feel.

Good.

[ At least one of them isn't afraid to take the step. Even if Sasuke's threat of two days doesn't spur Zenitsu to action, Tanjiro's got it. One way or another, this fight of theirs will get solved.

And maybe the fact that the fools are both in love with each other will also get solved. ]

You've got your hands full, though. It's probably not going to be easy to make Sparrow Pupil believe the truth. He seems that determined to beat himself down.

I know, and it can get so frustrating because he doesn't get it, he's really kind and strong. He's more than he thinks.

[ It's worth mentioning it again because even outside of their arguments, Tanjiro has made it clear in the past how much he vehemently disagrees with what Zenitsu sees in himself. Even thinking about it makes him feel upset. ]

But, no matter what, I want to tell him what I think. At least, I want to be there for him for as long as I can be.

If anyone can make him see what he's worth, they'd be the guy who loves him and wants him to succeed.

[ Sasuke gives Tanjiro a smile. Their world may be full of violence, but here they have the peace to work things out. There is less pressure on them.

And, hey, the gods will be happy if the two form a romantic relationship. Lots of potential physical contact there. ]

Yeah.

[ Tanjiro mouth starts to curve upwards, but there's a bittersweetness to it. He doesn't actually know if Zenitsu would ever forgive him, and to be honest, the thought of it scares him but at the same time that was for Zenitsu to decide. He just needed to figure out what to explain to Zenitsu as he apologizes to his friend.

No, to the boy he loves with all of his heart.

He gets up and carefully dust off his pant. ]

I just needed to figure out my feelings, but I think I know what to do from hereon.

Then the only thing that's left is to do it.

[ The decision has been made and made with conviction. Sasuke doesn't sense any wishy-washy determination. Tanjiro maybe afraid, but he's still going to go forward. ]

And, hey, if you need to talk with someone again, I guess I can help out.

[ What is he saying? This isn't his job or responsibility. ]

Of course, I'd appreciate it a lot. Thank you, Sasuke-san.

[ The question of whether he'll follow it through in the future is up to debate, but he's already making a mental note to make it up to Sasuke. ]

Well then, I'll be on my way and think through what I'll tell him in a few days.

[ Yeah, these kids will be fine.

Sasuke will wave goodbye to Tanjiro... and then get tackled by General Lohpeh, who broke through something again. ]
